Passion for Excellence

As the sun slowly sets behind the Rocky Mountains, there is one lone individual out on the driving range diligently hitting golf ball after golf ball. He looks at his target, approaches the ball, checks his alignment, takes a deep breath, then swings the club - straining to see where each ball lands as the light continues to fade. Finally, darkness overtakes the range and Doug Hutchins slowly cleans his golf clubs as he mentally reviews what he has accomplished on the driving range that evening. The intensity Doug exhibits towards golf might seem unusual to many people, but Doug lives by the philosophy that if you are going to do something, you should do it well.

Growing up on the Family Farm

Doug Hutchins grew up on the plains of western Kansas in a small farming community. His father was a third generation wheat farmer who farmed with his brother and father. Running a successful farm required long hours of work, so Doug learned at an early age about hard work. When Doug was 10, his father put him to work doing odd jobs around the farm. By the time he was 13 he was driving a tractor and helping with all of the farming activities.

While working on the farm, Doug was amazed at how hard his father worked. Not only did his Dad work hard physically, but he was always trying to improve the way he farmed. His Dad believed if you were going to do something, you should do it well and have a passion for excellence.

Doing it Well.

The hard work ethic Doug learned from working on the farm and from his father is evident in the other activities Doug has undertaken. In high school he worked at excelling in football, earning a football scholarship to Colorado State University. In college he pursued excellence in the classroom and graduated with honors. After working for four years in the business world, Doug decided to continue to pursue excellence and better himself by returning to school to obtain his MBA. “I believe knowledge is critical in performing any task well, so I decided graduate school would help improve me personally and the quality of work I perform.”

Intensity

It was during his last year of college that Doug started to take on the challenge of golf. “Golf is the ultimate challenge. It looks to be a simple game, but is incredibly difficult to master.” Although he often becomes frustrated with his game, he always works to improve. Between his successful real estate business and spending time with his wife, Kristen, and their two sons, Hayden and Brady, Doug tries to squeeze in as much practice as possible.

Doug’s wife Kristen is amazed at how intense he is at the activities he undertakes. “Doug was a golfer before I met him, but I introduced him to the sport of Scuba Diving and he applies that same intensity to diving. Anything he undertakes he strives to excel at.”

Passion for Excellence in Real Estate

The same dedication and passion for excellence applies to real estate for Doug. Early in his career Doug established a mission statement for his business that reflects this passion. It is “To provide superior real estate services to my clients by closely listening to their needs, developing the highest level of trust and providing them the information and expertise needed to complete a successful real estate transaction.”

To ensure he can provide this superior service, Doug has taken additional training and earned several real estate credentials that keep him on the cutting edge of the real estate industry. In 2005, Doug earned his Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation, which is held by less than 4% of Realtors. To earn the CRS designation, individuals must not only take advanced training classes, but they also must close a significant number of real estate transactions. The CRS designation is considered the “gold standard” of real estate professionals.
